More than seven years after its official launch, the Alfa Romeo Giulia is finally getting a facelift.

It is true that Giulia was previously adapted to compete in the GTA/GTAm, but a real design refreshment never happened until now. However, after seven years of service, recent spy photos show that the Giulia is finally getting that long-awaited update. A facelift that will presumably keep it competitive for a few more years until the Italian carmaker produces a worthy replacement by the end of the decade.

But before you get too excited, Alfa Romeo is going for some extremely limited design changes, Most of which will be confined to the front and rear of the car. The model we see in the photos is the Veloce version, classified as second behind the range-topping Quadrifoglio. In the front, under the camouflage, we see a new headlight setup, adopting the “3+3” configuration found on the new Tonale, which was originally inspired by the SZ Zagato or the Proteo concept.

On the back, the only noticeable change is the new tint on the rear light, with no real design changes. Clearly, Alfa Romeo plans on creating a new Giulia with minimal investment, although we should admit that there’s still some room for surprises. The final reveal of the production version will certainly unveil any hidden modifications that the company is still keeping from us.

There’s no confirmation about the new Giulia’s interior, observers insist that the cabin is in dire need of modernization; the car still has no digital controls, a fact that puts it in a weird situation because smaller and cheaper models like the Tonale replaced their analog controls with digital ones. So, to avoid letting the car fall behind its rivals, Alfa Romeo may need to reconsider the dashboard situation.

This new Giulia will have a relatively short lifespan, which explains why Alfa Romeo is not investing too much in it. The company announced that the next generation Giulia will come before 2027 as a fully electric car, ditching the current gasoline and diesel engines for good. This announcement concerns the entirety of the Alfa Romeo lineup, not only the Giulia. The company also specified that its brand-new electric fleet will first touch the road in Europe, North America, and China.
