In the recently-published 2022 "Top Picks" issue of Cars.com, the well-known online car shopping resource revealed its picks for the best electric vehicles on the market, as well as a related "EV Buying Guide." Cars.com breaks down its awards for electric cars into four categories: Value, Families, Luxury, and Commuters. Each category focuses on a different priority, though there's certainly some overlap.
In order to identify the winners, the website's experts examined carefully more than 30 electric vehicles, trucks, and SUVs, by considering their range, comfort, and features.
The winning car for Cars.com's Value award, the 2022 Volkswagen ID.4, is a compact SUV that's well-priced and loaded with appealing standard features. Though entry-level EV prices are on the rise in the United States, Volkswagen's ID.4 starts at around $42,000.
The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 won the Families award in this year's Cars.com awards. The publication said the unique crossover is a compact SUV with a roomy cabin that offers plenty of flexibility, spacious second-row seats, and a comfortable ride.
For the Luxury category, Cars.com selected the 2022 Lucid Air. While the publication did consider the Mercedes EQS, it ultimately gave that car an Honorable Mention award. The Air is described as a "next-level EV" and a "game-changer," geared toward the luxury segment of the electric car market. It boasts loads of cargo capacity, an infotainment system that's more intuitive and responsive than Tesla's, a sexy exterior design, and an opulent interior.[i]
The Chevrolet 2022 Bolt EV and Bolt EUV completed the list to be the best electric cars for commuters, with respectable estimated electric ranges and competitive prices.
Cars.com describes the Chevrolet Bolt as a peppy, fun-to-drive electric vehicle that's small enough for exceptional maneuverability and comfortable for a five-passenger vehicle.
In its 2022 EV Awards press release, Cars.com announced that it has created a new buying guide for electric vehicles, saying that searches for electric vehicles on Cars.com have doubled since 2021, citing this as a reason for the new resource. The Electric Vehicle Buying Guide will help curious consumers decide which electric vehicle is right for them.
