Another Ford family member that is changing to help the company reach its electrification goal in 2050.

FordFord Maverick in LATAM

This year the Ford Maverick has come to LATAM in his hybrid form. In 2022, there were some news about its arrival to the continent as the first pick-up hybrid to arrive to South America. And it is not a surprise its first step was Brazil.

Although in some countries in the south cone the gasoline model is already sold, in some others this truck is just going to show up, and it will be in both gasoline and hybrid versions, being the first truck of its class to be sold in a hybrid version in the southern part of the American continent.

It is quite clear that the new hybrid Maverick has the main difference in its mechanical part comparing it to the other 253 hp gasoline versions available. In this case, it uses an already known set with a 2.5L Atkinson cycle boost of 164 hp and 210 nm, assisted by an electric engine of 128 hp and 235 nm, which results in a maximum power of 194 hp at 5600 rpm and 250nm at 5400 rpm.

The electric engine is powered by a 1.1 kW/h rechargeable lithium-ion battery located under the back seats to maximize storage.  The 8-speed transmission is automatic eCVT and its traction is unloaded both on the front wheels and only on the four wheels.

It has selectable driving modes including normal, trailer, slippery, eco and sport.

Dimensions and capacities:

  • Net weight – 2,359 kg
  • Max load capacity – 655 kg
  • Towing capacity – 400 kg
  • Wheelbase – 3,076 mm
  • Length – 5,072 mm
  • Width – 2,121 mm (including external mirrors)
  • Height – 1,745 mm (without load)

On the outsider part we can see shapes that captive the attention wherever you go, without being a luxury car, but because of its minimalistic shapes. We can say that it is made to be comfortable but also to be proud of it.

We can see a not too big frontal grid partnering with front LED lights that keep the identity of Ford pick-ups, even it is smaller. No antifog lights, but we can see some ornaments that gives some extra texture to the front.

On the side, the first thing to see is the wheels that are 225/60 R18 made in aluminum with some gray details.

The side mirrors come in black to contrast with the body paint or it could also be of the same color of the body paint, as well as the handles. This will be configured at the time you decide to buy it.

We found a line of expression that crosses the car from door to door before reaching the cargo bed of the vehicle.

One great feature the Ford Maverick has is a keypad on the driver’s door to open it in case you lose the keys. It is like a keyboard to enter a code. Some call it keypad, some other key-less, but the thing is that it is an excellent idea.

To talk about the interior let's start with the door. We don't find many luxuries here either, but we do find some ergonomics. We see a digital screen on the dashboard without many washers, but its design is not very contemporary, rather it maintains the classic design with the button panel.

Its interior stands out for its ActiveX upholstered seats that include a series of features such as electric adjustment with up to 8 positions for the driver, and manual adjustment with up to 6 positions for the passenger, and front and rear armrests with cupholders.

Security system

Maybe the most important part to have into account and carefully review when buying a car is its security systems. It is not just because of our safety, but others.

Here the list:

  • Front airbag (driver and passenger)
  • Knee airbag for the driver
  • Surrounding airbags (Safety Canopy) front and rear seats
  • Side airbags for the front seats
  • Disc brakes on all 4 wheels which provides a greater power of reaction and security
  • Alert for open doors and lights on
  • Anchors for ISOFIX® baby seats in rear seats
  • Hill Start Assist (HLA)
  • Visual and audible warning of disconnected front seat belts
  • Traction control (TCS)
  • Electronic stability control (ESP)
  • Electronic Power Steering (EPAS)
  • Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
  • Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD)
  • Electronic Emergency Brake Assist (EBA)
  • Post-collision system with automatic activation of beacons, horn and door unlocking
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
  • Door opening with security code (SecuriCode). This is the keypad I mentioned before
  • Perimeter alarm

At this point of the year, it is being sold in some countries in LATAM as Argentina, Chile, and Peru. A country that is missing it is Colombia, but we have two months to see it arrive.

Finally, I want to share with you the technical information to see more about this car.

And remember, with your feet on earth while reaching your dreams!
