Hennessey reveals 1,204bhp 'Venom 1200' Mustang | Top Gear
The folks at Hennessey have been hard at work in the after-market kit department, and now they’ve brought us a fresh, 1,204bhp Ford Mustang GT500.
Hennessey Performance is cranking out some impressive one-off supercars, and this latest example might be their most bonkers yet. This time, it’s a Mustang GT500 with a claimed output of 1,204bhp. For those who know how Hennessey ratings are calculated, you'll understand the big fuss over this number. 1,204bhp is an incredible figure and easy enough to lift the rear seat of a Range Rover or Aston Martin DB11 nearly out of the car.
The Venom 1200 features several aerodynamic design details, to reduce drag and increase downforce, including an active rear spoiler that deploys at high speeds. The car's bodywork has been designed to minimize aerodynamic lift, which helps to reduce weight and increase performance.

Hennessey’s Mustang, which is capable of hitting over 1,200 bhp uses E85 fuel to achieve that power level. E85 is made from ethanol and gasoline, the combination of these two ingredients gives the fuel a very high octane rating, which means it resists spontaneous detonation under high cylinder pressures. In other words, it's a highly efficient burn!
The supercharger and ECU remap are what allows the engine to achieve such high output figures. The supercharger is larger than those on other Ford Mustangs, and it allows the car to produce more power and more torque than the standard model. The ECU remap is necessary because that same supercharger would not be able to handle all that power on its own – it needs additional horsepower for things like acceleration, passing, and stopping distance. And lastly, larger injectors are required because of how much fuel is being pushed through them every second.[1]
It’s not easy to improve on one of the world’s most potent muscle cars. But for those who are in the market for massive horsepower and huge amounts of torque, Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) believe they have perfected the recipe with its 1,200+ horsepower Venom GT.
