Is The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS Switching to Four Cylinder Power?

Mercedes Benz is working on the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS model. But we shouldn’t expect anything radical. apparently, Merc is content with some minor tweaks on all aspects.

The GLS’s point of reference is always the BMW X7, a car that received a radical facelift earlier this year. A large portion of the public expected that Mercedes Benz would imitate that in the GLS, but no, Mercedes doesn’t look interested in any big changes. Only time will tell if that is the right decision.

Recent pictures of the GLS prototype show that the German car maker is following the same design philosophy we saw on the Mercedes-Maybach GLS a few weeks ago. The biggest difference between the two is still the grill. A necessity to preserve Maybach’s status as the more luxurious model in the lineup.

One of the biggest changes on the new 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS is the redesigned air intakes, we can see them stretching across the entirety of the front bumper, with a section extending behind the license plate. But that’s about the only modification on the front fascia, even the headlights are almost identical to those present on the current model.

On the backside, however, camouflage is still hiding the taillight, suggesting a new design. The general shape looks fairly similar to the current one, but we can expect the triangle and rectangle motifs modified for a more fashionable configuration.

Inside the car, there’s not much to expect either, the infotainment setup is already at the height of technology. Although we wish that the screens get a little bit larger, and the system to receive some software and connectivity improvements.

The largest rumors currently circulating about this new model concern some engine modifications. There’s no confirmation yet, but the 2024 GLS may have a four-cylinder option for the first time. The engine was newly developed with some help from the F1 technical team, and it’s able to produce some 402 horsepower. It even has more torque than the V6. Fitting the car with this new inline-four will be a great shift from the current 4.0-liter V8.
