lamborghiniLamborghini huracan sterrato debut

Lamborghini has launched the new Huracan Sterrato, the brand’s first off-road car, and also the last pure-combustion vehicle.

The Sterrato is the latest alteration of the Huracan namesake, but not only that, the car is extremely special, for it represents the end of the pure internal combustion engine era at Lamborghini, and it’s also the first off-road ready vehicle in Lamborghini’s history.

The unveiling ceremony took place in Miami, specifically at the Art Basel. Ending the several months-long trail of spy photos, teasers, and partial reveals. We had the first close look at the final design at the start of November. But now, the brand has disclosed everything about the new Huracan Sterrato.

Now we know that the off-road going supercar body is 1.7 inches higher than the Huracan Evo. The added height allows for more suspension travel, and Lamborghini made sure to equip the Sterrato with the advanced Integrated Vehicle Dynamics system to take full advantage of this small height variation. Furthermore, Lamborghini updated the Strada and Sport driving modes and added a new Rally mode to better suit the new rugged driving experience on the Sterrato.

The Huracan Sterrato is not only taller than the previous Huracan models, but it’s also wider. Lamborghini's designers stretched the Sterrato body exactly by 1.2 inches in the front and 1.3 inches at the back. Keeping up with the off-road theme, the car is an all-wheel drive with large 15-inch six-piston caliper brakes at the front and 14-inch four-piston calipers at the rear, this setup provides a stopping power that matches the V10 horsepower. The brakes are mounted on 19-inch wheels, wrapped with a unique set of Bridgestone Dueler AT002 all-terrain run-flat tires.

Now let’s examine the engine, the Huracan Sterrato’s heart is a capable 602 horsepower (449 kilowatts) and 413 pound-feet (560 Newton-meters) 5.2-liter V10. Transmission is assured by a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. This setup is designed to send the car on a short 3.4 seconds sprint to reach the 62 mph mark, and then keep going until reaching 162 mph. That’s obviously less than what we would expect from a regular Huracan, but then again, this is no ordinary Huracan after all.

The uniqueness of this Lamborghini and the emphasis on its off-road capabilities are also interpreted by the use of Aluminum underbody protection panels, in addition to reinforced sills. The aggressive exterior design is complimented by exaggerated fender arches and additional lights on the nose. The roof-mounted air intake follows the same logic, the new configuration allows the car to ford shallow bodies of water safely.

Inside the car, Lamborghini didn’t miss the chance to include some off-road specific indicators, mainly, an inclinometer, pitch and roll indicator, and steering angle indicator. The rest of the cabin is covered in exclusive Verde Sterrato Alcantra upholstery, while the touchscreen is rejuvenated with a new graphic design. If that’s not enough, Lamborghini is offering near-endless customization possibilities, using 350 exterior and 65 interior color palettes.

The price is yet to be announced and production is set to begin in February 2023. The competition will surely be ruthless on the 1,499 units that constitute this limited production run.
