Toyota’s

Lexus RZ 450E Capable of 0-80% Charge in 30 Minutes

As part of Toyota’s effort to devise “a master plan of sustainable mobility” that emphasizes conservation and a change in the way we think about mobility at large,Lexus’s first all-electric offering, the RZ 450e, is scheduled for release in the US. With the aim of making electric vehicles accessible for everyone, the upcoming Lexus will be capable of charging 80% in thirty minutes using a 150kW fast charger, according to head engineer Takashi Watanabe. The RZ 450e and the Toyota BZ-4X share the same battery. Created by a partnership between Toyota and Panasonic, Prime Planet Energy Solutions.

In his first drive review for Motor1, Tom Moloughney provides an in-depth technical analysis:

[ That means the RZ 450e needs to accept about 60 to 62 kWh in 30 minutes. That’s an average charging rate of 120 kW from zero to 80 percent. It’s attainable, but it would be an extremely flat and aggressive charging curve and we’re skeptical that the RZ 450e will actually deliver it…]

Lexus has released the details on its upcoming RZ 450e SUV. The model will be rated at 308 horsepower and 225 miles of range, while promising to be high quality and environmentally friendly.

It’s clear Lexus has a positive outlook on its all-electric vehicle. They expect it to be successful and at a price point that will allow it to compete in the marketplace. The upcoming unveiling will let us see for ourselves what the RZ has to offer.
