Mercedes is showing off a new concept car, it calls it the vision AMG and it is an artistic sculpture as much as a representation of future electric cars.

Mercedes considers this new concept car as an icon representing the future of all its high-performing electric cars. The futuristic smooth and dynamic design, and the dedicated AMG.EA platform gives us great hope for the future of EV performance cars, especially those made by Mercedes. The car body looks like it was sculpted from one piece. Joints and fault lines are reduced to a minimum, giving the car an aerodynamic teardrop shape, further emphasized by the long wheelbase and the short overhangs.

The front is an AMG trademark, with the time-travelling unique grill, but with LED illumination this time. Framed by two headlight clusters taking the shape of a Mercedes three-point star. The rear is dominated by an overhanging spoiler, outlined by a thin strip of LED lights.

The roofs

The roofs adhere to the same smooth theme, drawing an aerodynamic curve from the front until it morphs into an integrated spoiler at the rear. All these design details envelopes The Vision AMG in the sporty vibes that Mercedes-AMG is all about.

Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Mercedes-Benz Group AG described the Vision AMG as the “embodiment of the brand’s dual polarity – the interplay of beauty and the extraordinary.” And here he was talking about the brand’s design philosophy, where They always try to make their designs reflective of the car’s power and performance capabilities.

The car indeed takes the form of a coupe, however, the color, smooth low body, and the star pattern along the sides all hint at one thing; the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team. Bringing the car’s high performance to the front once more. One last prominent reference to the race team is the exposed carbon fibre, 22-inch wheels. A detail that gives you the impression that the car is set and ready to take off at any moment.

Gorden Wagener had one last thing to say about the vision AMG: “With its contrasting modern surfacing and radical proportions, this car showcases the next design step, building on the VISION EQXX and moving further towards performance luxury. The seamless flow of beautifully formed surfaces and the monolithic sculpture complete the powerful aesthetic of the Vision AMG. The result is an electric supercar, a style icon that stimulates desire – and that’s exactly what sets a luxury sports car apart”
