New New Kia Pickup Truck Spied Wearing A Mohave Face

A new KIA pickup truck has suddenly emerged. Though still under camouflage, the features of a familiar face are apparent; it’s that of a Mohave SUV.

We’ve been hearing rumors about a new KIA pickup truck for too long, and the appearance of this model confirms them true. It’s still unknown if the model captured in these photos is some final test unit or just an early prototype. But at least we already know that the next KIA pickup will bear the face of the Mohave SUV. A logical choice if you think about it, since the Mohave already has a high ground clearance, suitable for a pickup truck with Off-road capabilities.

Users of Bobaedream and Kia_Club_Official are behind the viral photos, showing a camouflage car with the same front fascia we find on the Kia Mohave, that includes the LED headlights, Kia insignia, the grille, and the bulged front fenders. Other than the front end, the A-pillar, the front doors, and the mirrors are also extremely similar to those of the SUV.

The back is naturally a completely different story; it’s a boxy shaped rear bed with an increased ground clearance and brand new tail design.

Since the pickup truck is clearly taking a lot of design cues from the Mohave, maybe we should take a step back and examine the SUV specs.

The Mohave is built around a ladder-frame chassis, and runs on a 3.0-liter diesel engine coupled with an eight-speed automatic gearbox; a decent setup for a capable pickup that can become a serious competitor to the Toyota Hilux and the Ford Ranger. With that said, it’s highly unlikely that KIA builds the new pickup truck on such an old platform, the Mohave was initially built in 2008, and received an extensive facelift in 2019, which is not good enough for a brand-new pickup that wishes to be compatible with KIA’s current and future design philosophy.

Furthermore, the brand already announced the launch of two electric pickup trucks among a portfolio of 14 new BEVs. So, it’s reasonable to suspect that the test model we’re seeing today is one of those two EV trucks hiding under the skin of the good-old Mohave. [i]
