Peugeot to unveil all electric inception concept at ces this january
Peugeot's new Inception Concept will be unveiled at the upcoming 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
This new concept will outline the company’s future car designs as it enters the electric age. The precise reveal date was set for Thursday, January 5, 2023. Choosing an electronic innovation show may sound a bit odd for a car company, especially when it’s taking place in a country where it doesn’t sell any cars. Peugeot, however, justified their choice by saying that “it doesn’t get any bigger than the (CES)”. Las Vegas hosts the largest event dedicated exclusively to technological innovation every year, and that’s the ideal place for Peugeot to put its new take on electrified mobility under the eyes of the public.
Talks about the Inception Concept started in October 2022 during the Paris Motor Show, the French automaker then announced that it’s in the final phases of development and that it will be the basis of Peugeot’s next-generation electric cars. Inception Concept will be built upon the new “BEV-by-design” platform to “turn the entire automotive experience upside down.”
In English, this means that Inception Concept will showcase how the company will handle the new STLA architecture shared among all its sister companies grouped under the umbrella of Stellantis.
So, what is the STLA architecture? And how good is it?
STLA architecture is a new electric-only platform developed by Stellantis, and thanks to its flexibility and modular nature, the platform will be able to accommodate various car sizes in different segments. Stellantis' subsidiaries will have the liberty to design small city cars, premium vehicles, AWD performance vehicles, commercial vehicles, and trucks based on different versions of the platform, with ranges reaching up to 500 miles (800 km). Power also is not an issue, Stelantis states that the platform will offer a power output ranging from 68 hp for small vehicles to 885 hp (660 kW / 897 PS) for larger ones. All will depend on the chosen powertrain and the car’s application.
Back to the Inception concept, Peugeot says that the innovation is not limited to the propulsion systems, the car will also reveal the company’s next generation of interior design or as it calls it “the i-Cockpit”. The cabin will presumably reveal a new dimension in the driving experience, pushing the interaction between the driver and his car to a whole new level.
The reveal of this new concept is a crucial milestone for Peugeot. The company relies on it to initiate its electrification plans. Peugeot is preparing a very busy schedule for the coming years. Five electric models will be revealed in the next two years, and by 2025, every current model will have an electric version. And if everything goes smoothly, Peugeot will become an all-electric carmaker by 2030.
