A new Porsche 911 appeared on the radar; the mysterious 911 had some new interesting design details and was spotted doing some laps on the Nurburgring.

The most striking feature of this 911 is the massive fender flares, mounted over the front and rear wheels. The pieces are clearly mounted temporarily, probably indicating that Porsche is preparing for something.

Other temporary elements are sticking out of the car from every angle; turn signals in the front corners, a sensor on the roof at the base of the windshield, and a wire running from the sensor to the cabin. In addition to that, the car seems significantly higher than any other regular 911.[i]

This mysterious 911 rolls on sets of center-lock wheels with six sets of V-shaped spokes, unlike any other known 911. The final detail is on the plate number, the letter M on it indicates that this specimen is registered in Munich, quite an unusual place to register a new Porsche.

There’s one plausible theory that can partially explain the appearance of this unique 911; Several unofficial reports have previously indicated that Porsche is working on a high-riding 911 named Dakar, in preparation to participate in the world-famous long-distance desert crossing race with the same name. Other rumors stipulate the same thing, but also suggest that the car will bear the name Safari instead.

According to the same speculations, the Dakar (or Safari) will be based on an AWD Carrera 4S, making 443 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. If that turns out to be true, the car in question will definitely have more prominent and reinforced fender flares and a much higher ride.
