Volvo planning a new electric coupe called the c60
Volvo is releasing yet another electric car. The C60 is the latest creation of the Swedish carmaker, and it’s a coupe this time.
After the large EX90 luxury SUV, and the already announced EX30, Volvo is captivating the public’s attention with yet another electric coupe, another step toward full electrification. The car is still in the crib, the company has just filed a trademark for it on December 14, 2022, at the USPTO, under the name of “C60”.
The description of the trademark reads as follows: “Land motor vehicles, namely, automobiles and their engines; body structural parts; exterior insignia badges for vehicles; vehicle rooftop carriers, namely, automobile roof racks; spare tire covers; fitted motor vehicle covers; running boards for motor vehicles; mud flaps for motor vehicles; hitch plugs for motor vehicles, namely, trailer hitches; sunshades and license plate frames for motor vehicles; windshields for motor vehicles; windows for motor vehicles; wheels for motor vehicles; hub caps for motor vehicle wheels.”
Volvo planning a new electric coupe called the c60
Following Volvo’s naming logic, the C60 is most definitely a coupe. The “C” on all previous Volvo models was given to either a coupe, convertible, or hatchback, the prime examples of that are the C30 and C70. Furthermore, the C60 could also be the coupe version for the awaited 2023 Volvo XC60 Recharge. If that’s true, then we’re about to witness the launch of the smallest electric Volvo yet. The XC60 is already a small crossover, and its coupe version will be even smaller. This may seem odd in the age of large SUVs and crossovers, but you never know, maybe Volvo is onto something that we can’t yet see.
Volvo has already announced that it will produce a new EV at the South Carolina plant. Now with the existence of the C60 revealed, we can safely expect that it's that “new EV”. The stage is not empty though, once on the open market, the C60 will be facing worthy competition, starting with the next-generation BMW X4 as its primary adversary.
