The electric Audi AUDI AG

The electric Audi A6 is finally coming! From 2024, Audi will start offering the A6 as an electric e-Tron, and it will have an estate version. And the upside is the presented A6 Avant e-Tron concept is inevitably reminiscent of the legendary RS 6.

Don’t worry; Audi is just continuing to expand its electric car model range with this car, and they will also be offering the A6 as an e-Tron alongside the combustion engine version from 2024.

As early as 2021, the Ingolstadt-based company showed the sedan as a concept, and now, the station wagon will follow as a study. But it should already be very close to the production car!

According to Audi, the A6 Avant e-Tron concept should correspond to 90 to 95 percent of the production version planned for 2024. Means: Except for small adjustments to the proportions (slightly narrower and higher) and smaller details such as door handles, we will see this station wagon at Audi dealers in a good two years, full-bodied.

We will know more details by 2024 at the latest because then the A6 e-Tron will be unveiled as a sedan and estate. Deliveries of the first customer vehicles in Europe are planned for the same year.

The Design

The front corresponds to that of the already known A6 e-Tron concept. The closed single-frame radiator grille is typical of Audi's electric models. Underneath are air inlets for cooling the drive and batteries and an illuminated e-Tron logo.

It is doubtful whether the illuminated Audi rings will make it into series production, as the production model will also have conventional door handles. However, the study does not currently have a functional interior, so we have to postpone this check, but there is still some time until 2024.

One of the study's technical highlights is located below the extra narrow headlights with three freely configurable LED strips. The "Digital Matrix Units" are intended to project lighting effects, such as indicators, directly onto the road. But that's not all: In order to shorten the waiting time during loading breaks, a game can be thrown against a wall and controlled with a smartphone.

The chocolate side of the A6 e-Tron concept is definitely the view from an angle from behind. Continuous light strip, a crouched silhouette that ends in a roof edge spoiler and is more reminiscent of a sporty shooting arrow than a well-behaved station wagon. The strongly forward-leaning D-pillar emphasizes the massive wheel arches and the filigree 22-inch rims.

The 16.2 ft long and 6.4 ft wide Avant is brawny and reminds us of the 600 hp Audi with the eye-catching aluminum-look diffuser RS 6. Audi is also particularly proud of the very good drag coefficient of just 0.24, which is slightly worse than the sedan (0.22).

The Power

Just like the Audi A6 e-Tron concept, the Avant is also based on the PPE platform developed jointly with Porsche. PPE stands for "Premium Platform Electric" and is intended to form the basis for all medium-class vehicles in the future. The key features of PPE are 800-volt technology, a charging capacity of up to 270 kW, and scalable battery sizes.

In the case of the A6 Avant e-Tron concept, two electric motors (front and rear) with a system output of 350 kW (476 hp ) and a maximum torque of 800 Nm, as well as a battery with around 100 kWh are used.

Quattro is a matter of perfection due to the two engines (one each on the front and rear axle). In any case, power is transmitted to all four wheels by a single-speed gearbox. The production version is said to accelerate to 60mph in under four seconds.

Later production versions should also be available with pure rear-wheel drive and offer a range of up to 435 miles. The 800-volt technology also makes it possible to charge the battery with up to 270 kW (like the e-Tron GT ). Under ideal conditions, a range of up to 185 miles should be possible in ten minutes.

Incidentally, the first Audi model on PPE will not be the A6 e-Tron, but the SUV Q6 e-Tron. At Porsche, the upcoming Macan will take on the role. Audi e-Tron GT and Porsche Taycan are not based on PPE but are on the J1 platform.
