first Range RoverJaguar Land Rover

When the first Range Rover saw the light of day 50 years ago, Land Rover had the right instincts and, at the same time, founded a new segment with it, the luxury off-road vehicles.

Matured over the years and repeatedly refined, the last model had to fly the flag of the British for ten long years. With the new fifth generation comes the replacement that sends the now elderly predecessor into its well-deserved retirement.

The Design

The combination of the finest luxury and high off-road suitability is a trademark for Ranger Rover, and it’s the same story here. And, of course, the almost 6.2 ft high and 16.4 ft long truck is again an imposing sight. However, compared to the predecessor, the Range Rover V looks more minimalist.

Starting with the smooth lines, including retractable door handles, to the seemingly seamless transitions on the window panes to the deep black tail lights that curve downwards. They only appear when the driver applies the brakes, switches on the light, or uses the turn signal.

In addition to the regular version, there is also a long version. The XL version stretches 5.25 meters by 20 centimeters. The long version can also be ordered as a seven-seater for the first time. Or you can order it as a four-seater with two plush club chairs in the rear.

Without a doubt, the strikingly drawn Briton looks pretty cool, and its no-frills body looks like it has been milled from the solid. Visually it's already a stunner, but what about the inner values?

The Interior

The BritishJaguar Land Rover

The British coolness continues in the interior, and lavish luxury reigns around the cockpit as usual. Starting with the fine woods to the glove-soft leather, which extends to the roof lining in the First Edition.

There are very comfortable massage seats in the front and rear, which can not only be heated but also cooled. And there is a fridge in the expansive center console for drinks. If the feudal onboard equipment is still not exclusive enough, the in-house SVO department (Special Vehicle Operation) fulfills even the most exquisite customer wishes.

It goes without saying that the driver in the Range Rover looks at configurable digital instruments. It is just as modern when it comes to infotainment. With its expansive 13.1-inch touchscreen, it is well connected. The system is clearly structured, and every keystroke has haptic feedback.

There is also a WLAN hotspot for up to eight mobile devices. The Pivi-Pro-Multimedia also includes streaming music via the provider Spotify, as well as voice control via Alexa. The easy-to-use system receives upcoming updates in a very modern way over the air. Fortunately, in addition to the easy-to-use infotainment, there are still enough physical switches and rotary controls to make operation easier.

The Power

PowerJaguar Land Rover

The driven Biturbo diesel makes 350 hp and pushes the luxury thick ship powerfully. When required, the Range Rover sprints to 60 mph in just 6.1 seconds and runs to a top speed of 145 mph.

It's not just the double forced-ventilated in-line six-cylinder that impresses with its ample power reserves; it's also the silence on board. Even at higher motorway speeds, the wind only whispers quietly around the body, and the road noise is also pleasingly low. The secret: In addition to effective soundproofing, the Range Rover has active noise suppression, which eliminates annoying driving noises.

The double-ventilated diesel only whispers its six-cylinder song quietly and does not come to the fore even when accelerating vigorously, while the wind blows around the Brit with only a gentle breeze. And although the almost 6.2 ft tall Briton is equipped with a sweeping frontal area, it is hard to believe that its drag coefficiency of 0.30 is very low.

The Drive

Range Rover all-wheel steeringJaguar Land Rover

Since the British have given their Range Rover all-wheel steering for the first time, it is extremely handy when driving. With a turning circle of just 37 ft, which is small for this vehicle class, it is very useful when maneuvering and on winding terrain.

The air suspension, which is also installed ex-works, can be configured in multiple ways. In comfort mode, the Brit glides smoothly over all imaginable bumps. With a click of Sport mode, the Brit becomes more engaging and calm, but the overall callous steering can keep up.

It quickly becomes clear that the goal of the two-and-a-half-ton SUV is not cornering, but sedentary composure. Anyone who gets involved will get a luxury vehicle with the Range Rover that is pleasantly suitable for long journeys.

Dynamically ambitious drivers will also get their money's worth this year. The new Range Rover Sport will appear, which will be a little more compact at just under 16 ft in length but will be more agile.

Conclusion

ConclusionJaguar Land Rover

The fifth generation of the Range Rover was presented in October 2021. It came onto the market at the end of April 2022. It is again available in two lengths, with the series also being available as a seven-seater for the first time.

Technically, the series is based on a new platform designed to reduce weight and improve driving dynamics. A new five-link rear axle should also increase comfort. All-wheel steering is also installed as standard. The Range Rover was initially powered by two gasoline engines and one diesel engine in three power levels. All of these variants are designed as mild hybrids. Two plug-in hybrids followed shortly after.

If you can get one, you will need some protection for your British beast, and we have just the right solution for you. It can always be hard to find protective equipment for a new model right away.

For all your protection equipment needs, we recommend the Coverking. They are the best in the business and always know what they are doing. The company digitally scans each and every vehicle available on the market with the latest technology. That makes them able to create the best custom fitting equipment possible.

Coverking is also the official protective equipment partner with most manufacturers, and Chevrolet is one of them. Check out their catalog and find out what they can do for you and your vehicle.
