2023 Aston Martin DBX707 Prototype Drive

The adventures that sports car-makers do sometimes are always interesting, especially when they venture into SUV territory.

Aston martin’s new project is a new SUV called the 2023 Aston Martin DBX 707, although it’s still in development phase, we had the chance to watch a prototype doing high performance tests on the Stowe circuit at Silverstone. In one word, the DBX performance was impressive, and it promises a lot when it reaches its final form and starts production.

Aston martin claims that the car can reach 60 mph in 3.1 seconds, and it takes it 7.4 seconds to reach the 100 mph. Those are ambitious numbers by all standards, as they make it only 0.1 second slower than the Jaguar XJ220.

All the DBX 707 power comes from a redesigned 4.0-liter AMG V-8 engine that can produce 697 horsepower, a number so close to its name’s sake, falling behind only by 10.

Moers, Aston Martin current CEO, was behind the commission of the original AMG V-8   engine when he was head of AMG. Now he confirms that the modified version installed in the new 707 is not so different from the original one, as they only added new ball-bearing turbochargers and redesigned induction, and exhaust systems, plus a revised ECU.

To make the car safe, it was necessary to design a strong braking system, that’s why Aston Martin fitted the prototype with carbon ceramic 16.5 inches discs, the discs are not entirely finished and still need further development, as the tests proved that they are prone to wear pretty easily and that comes as a no surprise taking in consideration the car’s weight and power.

The 707 has GT, sport, and sport plus modes to choose from, they progressively transfer more power from the front to the rear axle, the stability function is also more forgiving in the sport mode, giving you more room for power oversteering; keep in mind that the function can be turned off entirely

We should wait for the true road test to be able to accurately assess the overall DBX 707 performance, although all the signs are positive, it certainly needs further work in order to be truly competitive in the SUV market.

Aston martin wants to achieve a special goal, it wants to prove that the 707 is the fastest SUV around. The current record is held by the Porsche cayenne with 7:39 on the 12.9-mile Nürburgring circuit Porsche an ambitious goal that DBX 707 still needs to make real.

Aston Martin’s DBX 707 is expected to make up more than 50% of the entire DBX’s sales worldwide, despite the $235,086 price tag.
