Chevrolet launched a new 2024 Chevy Trax model year, giving the crossover a new, fresh start when everyone thought that it was dying.
To everyone’s surprise, the life span of the Chevy Trax has just been extended with the launch of a new 2024 model. So after all, the Trailblazer won’t be the only crossover offering in Chevy's portfolio, the Trax will offer much-needed diversity in this segment. The Trax situation is a bit odd, the 2024 model is significantly larger than its predecessor, and it’s even larger than the Trailblazer, but it’s still cheaper. So if you plan on buying a Chevy crossover, it’s not an easy choice.
The 2024 Trax adopted completely different proportions, it’s longer, lower, and wider than the previous model. The wheelbase is 6 inches longer, and when combined with the wider stance, the Trax became somewhat of a sporty compact SUV.
Inside, the cabin has a more familiar vibe to it, most of the design elements are taken from the Blazer and Equinox. The centerpiece is of course the 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, the step flows seamlessly to merge with the instrument cluster. This is for the base level Trax, higher trim levels get a larger 11-inch screen. Another interesting perk in the new Trax is an additional 3 inches of legroom for the rear seats, thanks to the larger wheelbase. The new extra inches in the exterior design also offer more cargo space.
Of course, interior, and exterior design features may vary depending on the trim level. The Trax is offered in LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS, and activ flavors.
The Chevy Trax runs on the same platform as its sibling the Trailblazer, it has the same turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder base engine combined with a new six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. The difference is that the Trax doesn’t offer any other engine or transmission options, unlike the Trailblazer. The turbocharged three-cylinder makes 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque.
Now, let’s get down to the prices. For a start, Chevrolet managed to keep them all under $25,000 in all trim levels.
To give an idea about what you’re getting for that price, the base LS comes standard with cruise control, LED headlights with automatic high beams, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, active noise canceling, alloy wheels, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and lane-keep assist, all that for $21,495.
The Price climbs up gradually to reach $24,995 for the Activ version, which includes the additional automatic climate control, push-button start, wireless phone charging, heated seats, and a sunroof.
Interested buyers will be able to order their 2024 Trax starting in spring 2023. Further information about the car will trickle down before the launch date.
