New spy photos announce the imminent launch of the 11th-generation Accord sedan.
Even if the CR-V crossover is Honda’s flagship now, the Accord still holds a lot of gravitas in the company’s lineup, and the fact that the sedan is going into its 11th generation shows how much Honda still relies on this special vehicle. The 11th-generation Accord sedan will be a hybrid, and the spy shots show that the new design is cleaner and simpler, but not too far away from the current model, which had its fair amount of success, since 2018.
The 11-generation Accord will not be just a marginal model, Honda intends on making it an integral part of the lineup, aiming at about 50 percent of total sales for the CR-V, Accord, and Civic models.
What we can see through camouflage wraps is some narrow headlights placed on the flanks of a relatively unassuming grille, while the taillights seem to take the width of the entire car and wrap around to the sides.
Under the hood, we have some hopes that the Accord may get a few more horses in there, but the current 212-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four will most likely remain the standard engine in the new generation Accord. Maybe the transformation into a hybrid powertrain will give us more engine choices than before.
The new Accord will certainly be controlled through a new automatic transmission, as the manual one is being phased out of all Honda models in recent years. However, it’s highly unlikely to see an AWD option, like the one we see on rival models such as Kia K5, Nissan Altima, and Toyota Camry.
The interior is expected to take on the tablet-style touchscreen right at the center and the honeycomb-style air vents all inspired by the latest Civic and upcoming CR-V.
The launch of this new generation is the signal that this year will be the last for the current Accord model, Honda hinted before that the hybrid Accord will be launched right after the 2023 CR-V, which means after July 12. But we still have no specific date yet.
