2024 Hyundai Kona EV Coming With Tucson Styling Cues

Hyundai is getting ahead with its electrification plans, this time with the new 2024 Kona.

The Korean carmaker has been experimenting with renewables for a while now, making Hybrid versions of almost every model it has, and creating a pure EV sub-brand, The Ioniq. In addition to its recent attempt to work with hydrogen fuel in the N Vision 74 concept.

One of those ongoing projects is the Kona EV, coming back for a second model year, hand in hand with its gas-powered twin just like in the current model. The car was recently spotted near the Hyundai/Kia's technical center in Germany.

How do we know it’s the EV version? Easy, the license plate ends with an “E” meaning PHEV or full EV in car language, the second hint is the very obvious charging port on the nose, conveniently placed in the same spot as in the current model.

The code name SX2 EV means that the new Kona will share a lot of technical features with its not-so-distant sibling the Kia Niro EV. Like the 64.8-kWh battery and 201-horsepower electric motor. This means that the car will need 45 minutes to charge from 10 to 80%. And it will have a range of about 253 miles.

When it comes to the Kona design features, Hyundai seems to like the current one, keeping the split headlights intact for example, but we will probably see some Tucson influences, like in the angular wheel arches, the angular shoulder line, and the more aggressive wing mirrors design. We will have to wait for the car’s reveal in early 2023 to have a better look without the inconvenience of heavy camouflage.

It’s hard to see anything inside this prototype, but previous spy shots of the gas-powered model have revealed a widescreen infotainment-cum-instrumentation display combining two 12-inch displays. Plus, some Horizontal HVAC vents.

Heavy camouflage protects new cars from hungry eyes, but Coverking covers protect them from everything else, Coverking custom-made covers are ready to stand against harsh weather, spills, minor accidents, and more!

All you need is to contact Coverking and specify your car model. And thanks to our advanced 3D scanning technology we will make you a custom-made car cover that will hug your car with all its curves and small details. Protecting it for years to come.
