Honda announces that a Type S Acura Integra is coming soon, running on a familiar Civic Type R Engine.

After months of rumors and speculations, Honda finally admitted that its release schedule includes a new Type S version of the Acura Integra. The announcement went even further, specifying the type of engine and its expected output.

Honda also released a series of photos, showing the upcoming model still under camouflage patterns.

The car is showing some new aggressive traits that are apparent even under camouflage. The wheels are adorned with shiny new red-painted brake calipers, and the prominent new rear diffuser is sporting a triple-exit exhaust, mimicking the Ferrari design. More interestingly, the traditional giant Type R wing is missing, apparently, Acura is trying to seduce a more mature public than usual, but even so, the wing can be offered as an accessory, depending on the customers' wishes. The insides of the car are still obscure, details about the cabin design and technological features may follow later, ahead of the 2023 summer reveal.

Naturally, the new Type S version will use a larger engine than the 1.5-liter turbocharged one we find on the regular model.

The chosen mill is a 2.0-liter VTEC turbocharged engine, good for more than 300 horsepower. Power will flow through a six-speed manual transmission with a limited-slip differential.

Curiously enough, the same engine makes 315 hp when used on the Civic Type R. So, it remains to see if the new Acura will have a better or at least a similar performance, considering that it ranks higher than the Civic on Honda’s hierarchy.

That’s not the only challenge that Integra type S is facing right now. Acura is a luxury-oriented brand, which often results in additional weight loads. So, a combination of engine power, aerodynamics, and weight optimization will be necessary to have a competitive car.
