'Arena del Futuro' Tests Dynamic Inductive Recharging for EVs

A Direct-Wire Power Transfer (DWPT) is a system of coils that transfers energy to vehicles via inductive charging.

A major challenge to the electric vehicle revolution is the lack of available infrastructure for charging batteries. To help solve this problem, Stellantis, together with its partners has developed cutting-edge wireless tech that can rejuvenate EVs as they drive on specially equipped roadways.

Dynamic Wireless Power transfer (DWPT) is a method of transmitting energy wirelessly to vehicles via induction coils placed under the road surface.

The technology has been tested in a project called Arena del Futuro where several electric vehicles were driven around a test track equipped with DWPT coils. The vehicles were equipped with wireless power transfer receivers that enabled them to recharge their batteries when they drove over the coils.

The test results show that DWPT can be used as an alternative method for charging electric vehicles on roads, and confirm that the energy flow from asphalt to an electric car is comparable to that of fast-charging stations.

The new system ‘Arena del Futuro’ uses direct current (DC) to charge EVs, reduces energy losses in the energy distribution process, and ensures direct integration with renewable energy sources. Aluminum cables are easier to source, lighter and cheaper than copper, and can be recycled in a circular economy business model.

Electric vehicles have become increasingly popular in the past few years, we all know that it's only a matter of time before something new comes out, so why not make your current equipment last as long as possible?

You can do this by investing in quality protective covers from Coverking. Our custom-made covers are made with the highest quality materials to protect your equipment from daily use.

At Coverking, we design custom-made covers for all types of vehicles, including SUVs, trucks, vans, and more! Our covers will fit perfectly every time you install them. You won't have to worry about them being too loose or too tight either because they'll be custom-made for your specific vehicle.
