BMW Confirms Quad Exhaust Non-M Cars
Exhaust pipes were always and still are an integral part of the ICE powertrains, with each and every new model, carmakers are faced with the choice of to whether display the exhaust tips as a feature or keep them discrete and hidden under the back bumper.
BMW is famous for always taking the first path, with all its models, choosing stylish classy designs for their exhaust pipes. The 7 series was no exception, we first admired the quad setup on the G70 in 2021, now that the seventh-generation model is on full display, we see that the quad setup is present on the luxury sedan but not on the M version, which retained a four tipped exhaust system.
BMW have fallen into a design contradiction when they equipped the 760i with the quad exhaust despite it not being an M Performance model nor an M model at all.
This development hinted that the German brand may be implementing the Quad system on all regular BMWs.
What we know for sure is what the head of the design department at BMW said “all future M Performance cars will receive the quad tips arrangement” starting with the upcoming M35i.
Our next chance to see the new arrangement on previous M models is of course the awaited mid-cycle facelift for the 3 series. The M340i is a leading contender to receive the new layout.

The XM however, will receive a different treatment than other M models, it will be fitted with a different setup, featuring stacked tips shaped like a trapezoid.
