Buick Wildcat EV Concept Revealed

Buick has built a new concept car that has no chance of seeing public roads, but how much of its technologies could be seen on future Buicks?

The concept car is called the Wildcat EV, and strangely enough, it’s a low, wide, four-seat fastback coupe, a stark contrast to the current company lineup, made up exclusively of SUVs.

It’s obvious that the Wildcat EV is another step in preparation for the major transition that awaits the brand by 2030 when the entire lineup will be electric.

For that reason, Buick went wild with the design, squeezing every possible technology in it while disregarding fundamental technical issues like battery space. Knowing that it won’t need to because the company won’t go through with producing any small cars in the foreseeable future.

Sharon Gauci, executive director of global Buick-GMC design explained that by saying: "This was a tremendous opportunity to come up with what a new design language and aesthetic for Buick will feel like".

Buick Wildcat EV Concept Revealed

Currently, Buick is working on the Electra EV SUV, with the official reveal scheduled for 2024. The car will be based on the same platform we find under the upcoming Cadillac Lyriq. This suggests the possibility of having the new 100.0-kWh Ultium battery pack as the main power source. Such a combination will give the car a 300 miles range at least.

But the real question is how much of the wildcat EV we’re going to see on the Electra?

Back to the concept vehicle, the first thing we notice on the exterior is that the car has the main features of a gas-powered car. Far away from the design language we currently see on all new EVs.

Gauci said that it was a deliberate move from Buick. The design philosophy of the company dictates that the car should keep looking like a car no matter the type of energy it uses!

As a result of this mindset, the future Electra will have a well-defined face with thin, high-mounted headlights and a prominent grille made of tightly spaced horizontal bars. In short, the company doesn’t plan to make trendy cars, they prefer timeless lines that age well and have already proven themselves through time.

Another main feature of the car’s exterior is the new elegant logo. Buick’s three shields are showing the national colors proudly, and have broken out of the traditional tight circle.

It’s a bit sad that such beauty will never enter the production line but we only hope to see some of its features in other future cars. Stuff like the section of the roof that pops up when you open the door for example. Or the biomonitoring sensors that will presumably detect the driver’s stress and help him relax through aroma therapy and seat massage.

Despite all the technological innovation, we see in today’s cars. One thing will remain always enemy number one of every car, the weather. Adverse meteorological conditions won’t go easy on your car. That’s why you should be ready, Coverking’s custom-made  Stormproof™ Car Cover is the only car care product that can give your car the protection it deserves and give you the confidence to leave her outside at all times.
