Canoo unveils 600 hp light tactical electric vehicle for the u s army
The EV company, Canoo is developing a new version of its pickup truck for the US army, the vehicle is called Canoo Light Tactical Vehicle (LTV).
The US army's rising interest in electric vehicles is getting more obvious by the day. After GMC, the army enlisted the help of canoo to develop a new multi-purpose electric tactical vehicle. Although it might be early for mass production, the prototype will serve as a showcase to demonstrate and analyze the possibilities this unique electric vehicle may offer.
The design of the LTV looks very similar to that of Canoo’s original pickup truck, but with some obvious differences. First, the LTV sits higher on a raised suspension and new 32-inch all-terrain tires, it also features one single cabin instead of two, making more room for the rear bed, which is mighty useful for a military vehicle.
The powertrain is also modified, now capable of reaching 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS) instead of the 500 we find in the standard truck.
Other minor features are also included in the new vehicle to help it perform better in its new role. The front bumper, for example, now features D-ring mounts. The rear body and bed look reinforced as well.

The main concept of the LTV, according to Canoo, are durability, strength, and practicality, which are the main concepts of all army equipment in general. Canoo didn’t share all the details, but it said that the truck is “engineered for extreme environments and includes stealth configurations.”
Canoo didn’t miss the chance to demonstrate the modular nature of its vehicle. For starters, the convertible flatbed platform allows the LTV to switch between being a pickup, a flatbed truck, or a cargo vehicle.
Furthermore, an attachment system allows for the easy mounting of “racks, ramps, storage boxes, tents, or tactical systems.”. These modular properties allow the army to reduce equipment and operating costs, and also make the LTV suitable for a wide range of missions and operations, soldiers will just have to mount the right equipment, and they’re good to go.
In the end, Canoo CEO Tony Aquila emphasized the added value that his new vehicle brings to the world “The LTV is another milestone proving the power of our technology and how it can be used, even in tactical situations.”
