Chevrolet is about to increase the Horsepower output of the new generation C8 Corvette.

The C8 Corvette was an awesome car ever since its first debut in 2020. But Chevrolet’s constant pursuit of perfection resulted in numerous subtle updates since then. The series of modifications is still ongoing, with an expected new powertrain update that will give the car more power.

The news broke out when GM Authority reported the existence of a C8 Corvette Stingray test model sporting odd exhaust pipes, this naturally suggests a new or a modified powertrain. Further investigations revealed that the car’s output will be raised from the current 495 hp (369 kW/501 PS) to more than 500 hp (373 kW/507 PS).

Granted, that’s not too much of an increase, but it’s still a welcome one. This is hardly the first time that the C8 powertrain was updated, but power wasn’t exactly the main goal of the previous alteration, and that’s what makes this update a special one.

In previous instances, strict EPA emissions standards forced Chevy engineers to get down to work and ameliorate the Corvette's mile-per-gallon ratings. At its debut, the car was making 15 MPG in the city, and 27 MPG on the highway. That was improved to 16/27 MPG using modified fuel delivery and active fuel management systems.

All that work was good for the environment, but it ignored what the public truly wanted. Now, however, the carmaker appears to be catching up with its fans with this long-awaited update. There’s still no official release date for the 500-hp stingray, but knowing that it will exist in the future is enough for now.

For the impatient ones, Chevrolet is offering another solution, called the Corvette Z06. This car has a 5.5-liter flat-plane crank V8 good for 670 hp (679 PS / 500 kW) and 460 lb-ft (624 Nm) of torque.
