Digital license plates are now legal in california
With the proliferation of digital devices, we also have a whole new way of displaying our personalized information.
We in the digital milieu have grown accustomed to the ability to obtain almost anything with a couple of clicks and some information about you. Now it seems that one of our favorite items - the license plate on your car - can become just as common by having a digital version. In California and Michigan, you can now get a digital license plate instead of your standard metal one.
The Motor Vehicle Digital Number Plates bill (AB-984) was updated on 5 October 2022, and now it includes new digital plates that are created from scratch and old plates that have been digitized. This is a huge step forward for technology in California. Digital license plates are more efficient than their traditional counterparts, as they are able to store data and transmit it wirelessly to a central database.
RPlate is the digital plate offered by Reviver which is currently the only company offering this service, it is a plate that can be personalized with a logo or other text. It is functional because the customer can choose a font that is readable. The design on the RPlate can be as simple or complex as a multi-color graphic.
License plates are available in two different formats: The RPlate battery-powered and the hard-wired RPlate. The first version is a self-installation model which available to all consumers and retails for $19.95 per month. However, the hard-wired version of the RPlate is only available to commercial businesses for a monthly $24.95.
The company has also announced that it will be able to provide automated vehicle registration and compliance services. This includes batch registration renewal, as well as a suite of telematics and safety features.
"Californians are known to be early adopters of emerging innovative technologies. We welcome new opportunities to automate and integrate as many parts of our lives as possible, enabling us to streamline mundane tasks and stay connected. Our cars are no exception," Reviver Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer Neville Boston stated.
The way we display information on the road is changing, and digital license plates are going to play an integral role in this change. It's only a matter of time before the technology is refined and digital license plates are offered in all states across the country.
