Driverless Freight Vehicle Hits the Road in Industry First

We’re witnessing History these days, as the first driverless Freight Vehicle from Einride has been approved for public roads in the US.

The electric truck is the first purpose-built autonomous Truck to roam US public Roads freely. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) chose the Swedish company to serve as a pilot real-life test, before granting more permissions to other technology companies that are still waiting patiently in line to show off their technological novelties.

Einride operations will start with exhibiting the Pod’s abilities with the existing operations at a GE Appliances manufacturing facility starting in the 3rd quarter of this year. As an initial step before large-scale commercialization.

The vehicle itself doesn’t have enough space for a driver, just another small message indicating that the vehicle doesn’t need human assistance at all. Remote operators will be responsible for monitoring and controlling the truck fleet remotely. Thus, answering the Job question that most critics ask when talking about replacing regular trucks with self-driving ones.

Einride claims that the Pods are capable of mixing seamlessly with regular traffic on public roads, and also engaging automatically with loading and unloading operations in complete coordination with warehouse crews.

Einride founder and CEO Robert Falck introduced his most recent creation by saying: “This is a type of vehicle that has never been seen on U.S. roads and marks a milestone for the future of the freight industry. We know ... our pod will not only revolutionize transportation but also create thousands of jobs.”

But in the end, we all know that it’s still too early for this kind of truck to take over our roads entirely. In the meantime, regular trucks will keep roaming the lands tirelessly, exposed to all kinds of weather conditions. As a responsible truck driver, you should think about protecting it from rapid deterioration due to the harsh work environment, Coverking offers you the perfect solution, Saddleblanket Custom Seat Covers are the most popular interior custom-made covers among truckers.
