Ferrari strikes again with a new one-off creation, the SP51 was made for a wealthy client, based on the 812 GTS Spider design.

Ferrari claims that it needs two years to design its very special one-off Project cars, but that fact didn’t stop it from making two of them this year; the first one was the SP48 Unica, and the second is the subject of this article, the SP51, a unique car based on the 812 GTS convertible.

The SP51 has a striking emphasis on new modified small details, making it unique in its own way, despite that the general shape is still close to that of the 812 GTS convertible.

The front fascia is shaped by a modified black, carbon fiber insert, sitting under smaller headlights. Carbon fiber makes another appearance right under the windshield, extending in two prongs toward the air vents.

Turning to the side, we notice that the original aggressive sculpting was modified, and turned into a more fluid one, rising gently to the middle of the door and then descending toward the rear wheels. Hovering over it we find a pair of flying-buttress-like cowls that help shape the dark lines of rear intakes behind the cabin, complete with a carbon fiber wing, running across the car and making the rear more interesting. Further back, the quad tail lights are beautifully sandwiched between the deck lid spoiler and the sleek layered diffuser. Ferrari took the chance to describe the design prowess it had implemented in this special project car; saying that it took endless “CFD simulations, wind tunnel and dynamic testing” to ensure that the car has the “ultimate in comfort in the cabin, but also the same standard of acoustic comfort and wind feel as the car that inspired it.”.

The applied color isn’t just some red; it actually has a story behind it. First, it's called Rosso Passionale, custom-made and applied in three layers. The blue and white stripes running across the entire body are inspired by one special 1955 Ferrari 410 S, an early race car powered by a 5.0-liter V12, driven by Carroll Shelby when he won in Palm Springs.

The same color scheme extends to the interior, with the white and blue stripes represented by the stitches on the seats, dashboard, center tunnel, and doors. Ferrari didn't disclose the car’s price, but it doesn’t matter, since the car is a one-off project that no one else can buy.
