2024 Fisker Pear EV Crossover Preview
Henrik Fisker has announced plans for a new low-cost EV, called Pear, saying that it will change the future of the EV market.
Fisker is not planning to take a rest after finishing the work on their first EV. The started is announcing a new model, while the Ocean EV is not even in production yet.
They are calling the upcoming model Pear, and it’s expected to be the cheapest EV on the market with $29,900 only as a top price.
The pear will enter production sometime in 2024. And the entire process will be taken care of at Lordstown, Ohio, by Foxconn. Where the company will also build the Endurance pickup.
Fisker is making big plans for this new EV, some 250,000 units will be produced once the wheels of production start rolling properly. An ambitious number that raises a lot of questions, especially about the balance between the production volume and the actual consumer demand.
The latest teaser images gave the impression that the car has already passed the design phase; especially when you see technical details like the body panel seams and the circular sensor on the lower front fascia.
Other details like the wingtip cameras are present as well, but they will most likely be dropped before production. Especially when you factor in the car’s low price.
According to the same pictures, the general body shape will be a homogenous mix between a large hatchback and a few wagon vibes. With a size that’s roughly the same as the one, we see in the Kia EV6. Despite all that, the vague resemblance to its sibling the Ocean is hard to ignore. Both cars follow the same design principle even if they will be produced on two separate continents.
Usually, EV producers refrain from offering their smallest and cheapest models on the US market. That’s the point that Fisker is willing to exploit with Pear. That’s a brilliant idea in theory, but we still have to wait and see if it works out smoothly in the real world.
Startups like Fisker try to make unique products that fill the gaps that exist in major producers’ inventories.
