Geely will be the next Chinese carmaker to enter the country's EV market and their tiny electric car dubbed Panda.
China is set to become the biggest electric vehicle market in the world. Geely Automobile Holdings, a Chinese car manufacturer headquartered in Hangzhou, is gearing up to release its new Panda model. The company has a history of producing alternatives in its passenger and commercial vehicles range making its electric car announcement seem like a big deal.
Panda is a new EV built on an all-new body-on-frame platform that’s been designed specifically for electric vehicles. The lightweight body will give it a nimble ride, while the simple and advanced body shape provides occupants with the best protection. Overall, Geely’s new vehicle can be classified as cute. The car is just 3,065mm (120.6 inches) long, 1,522mm (59.9 inches) wide, and 1,600mm (62.9 inches) tall, perfect for those living on a budget.

The car’s size makes it a suitable option for smaller city centers, as it is small enough to park without taking up too much space. With its low center of gravity, the vehicle handles well on highways and in rough terrain. The body has a host of exciting indents and creases, in particular those on the front quarter panels and doors; while overall dimensions are smaller than those of gas-powered models that have been produced by Geely in China for the past decade. The black side window surrounds give the car a clean look, while the dramatic B-pillar gives it an upscale feel.
The new electric car is expected to be powered by a 30 kW (40 hp) electric motor and feature a small lithium iron phosphate battery. This is not just another Geely EV, it’s also one of the first releases in what is expected to be a wave of EVs to come out of China in the near future. For now, Geely and the Panda EV seem poised for some success—at the very least in this emerging market.
