Hyundai's premium brand Genesis already started taking pre-orders for the new GV60. Genesis' first pure electric car is expected to be fully launched later this year. The GV60 is based on the specially developed electric platform E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform), on which the electric cars such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6, are based.
With an all-electric range of up to 517 kilometers, Genesis now also wants to underline its commitment to maximum range and high performance on the way to electrification. With a length of 14.8 ft, the GV60 plays in the compact SUV league - and with its coupé-like line it is aimed at the 15 ft long VW ID.5.
The Design
Visually, the Genesis GV60 is a little less progressive than its sister models without appearing old-fashioned. The curved coupe design is vaguely reminiscent of the Volvo C40 Recharge in a few places but has a distinct appearance thanks to the split headlights and pentagonal grille.
The B-pillars are designed to include a camera with facial recognition, and Genesis calls it the "Face Connect". The car opens when it sees the face of the owner and another previously defined person, sets its radio program and the head-up display, moves the seat and steering wheel to the desired position, and starts the engine.
The Interior
The interior is fresh and modern, not least thanks to the bright color combination of blue and yellow-green, marking a clear departure from the conservative premium cockpit. In addition to the two-spoke steering wheel, the continuous screen area, and the digital exterior mirrors, breathe fresh air into the interior.
The focal point of the interior is the Crystal Sphere, a spherical electronic transmission control that enhances the driving and operating experience. It not only enhances the aesthetics of the interior but also forms the emotional link between the driver and the vehicle.
The Genesis GV60 also comes standard with numerous other next-generation technologies: In addition to advanced safety systems, there is a 12.3-inch infotainment display and a wireless charging cradle for smartphones on board.
The Power
Hyundai and Kia both have a small 58 kWh battery to keep the base price low. Not with Genesis. The only built-in battery is 77.4 kWh in size, there will be two drives at the market launch - both come with two electric motors and an all-wheel drive.
The entry-level model is the GV60 Sport, where its two electric motors deliver 234 kW (318 hp) together, and with a maximum torque of 605 Nm, the sprint to 60 mph is completed in 5.5 seconds. If you take it easy on the gas pedal, up to 290 miles should be possible according to WLTP.
If the performance of the Sport is not enough for you, you can choose the larger "Sport Plus" model. Its two engines deliver a total of 320 kW (435 hp), with a further 40 kW released via a boost mode. Then the Korean delivers up to 360 kW (490 hp), but only for ten seconds. With up to 700 Nm, the 60 mph mark is reached in just four seconds.
Both variants have 800-volt charging technology, which is otherwise only found in much more expensive vehicles such as the Porsche Taycan or the Audi e-Tron GT. This means that the GV60 draws electricity from the fast-charging station at a charging speed of around 230 kW and can charge its battery from 10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes.
By the way, even when it's cold: When the Genesis comes onto the market, it will already have the charging update that the Ioniq 5 and EV6 will soon receive "over the air". At the home wall box, the car charges from 10 to 100 percent in just over seven hours with 11 kW.
Conclusion
The unique selling point of the Genesis GV60 compared to its sister models is the all-around carefree package of the Hyundai noble subsidiary. The five-year service package including "Personal Assistants" includes warranty, maintenance, and roadside assistance including rental car options, over-the-air, and map updates.
This kind of luxury and technology is also unique in the industry in the price range of Genesis GV60. Therefore, we think this car has the potential to become a best seller over time.
