GM to Offer Electrified Corvette as Early as Next Year
General Motors has big plans in store for the electric car market. The company has announced its intention to launch an electric version of the Chevrolet Corvette as early as next year. GM is making its presence felt in this market.
The company's newest concept for an environmentally-friendly version of the company's Corvette car is an Ultium vehicle. Ultium is a fuel that combines hydrogen and oxygen molecules to generate electricity to power a vehicle's circuits. GM President Mark Reuss' revealed the concept of the fully electric, Ultium-based Corvette in a statement on LinkedIn.
The electric vehicle market is booming, and General Motors wants to be a part of it. As more consumers are showing interest in electric vehicles, which includes the fan base of a popular sports car. The new Corvette, the iconic American sports car, will be an important step for Chevrolet which has been working toward an all-electric future.
In hopes of developing more affordable electric vehicles, General Motors and Honda have entered into a joint venture to manufacture a line of electric vehicles with the next-generation Ultium battery.
The manufacturer is willing to spend a lot on converting a facility to create a new electric version as well as constructing a battery cell plant.[1]
