Toyota Quietly Released EPA Figures for the 2023 Sequoia
The Toyota Sequoia is getting back into the competition thanks to new improved EPA numbers following the 2023 update it received.
Focusing on new designs and technologies may lead carmakers to forget some interesting project they had going on, that’s what happened with Toyota apparently. The Sequoia had to wait more than 7 years before receiving this game-changing update.
In an increasingly crowded market, every car model needs something really special going for it to truly stand out. The Toyota Sequoia is currently facing some very successful models, such as the Chevy Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and the luxurious Nissan Armada. Standing your ground against such big names is no easy task, but the new milage figures are definitely a big boost to Sequoia’s position.
The new hybrid drivetrain has improved the car’s numbers greatly, the 2023 Sequoia 2WD can do 21/24/22 mpg city/highway/combined, compared to the modest 13/17/15 we see on the previous model. The 4WD version is more fuel-thirsty naturally, performing 19/22/20 mpg.
These new figures put the Sequoia at the same level as the Tundra pickup, and way above other comparable models like the Chevrolet Tahoe with its 15/20/17 mpg and the Ford Expedition 17/23/19 mpg.
But how did Toyota achieve such an impressive improvement? the answer in the new powertrain, the Sequoia runs on the 3.5-liter i-FORCE MAX twin-turbo V6 hybrid powertrain, attached to a motor-generator fitted in the transmission's bell housing, the generator can add about 100 highway miles compared to the previous model. Making a huge difference in the overall car’s performance.
But that’s not the only thing going for the Sequoia, the car has some impressive tow capabilities, hauling about 9,520 lbs. compared to 8,400 lbs and 9,300 lbs. towed by the Tahoe and the Ford Expedition respectively.
If you’re willing to invest in this new Sequoia you should put aside more than $58,300. And then choose from five different trim levels, SR5, Limited, Platinum, Capstone, and TRD Pro trim, all available in 2WD and 4WD versions except for the TRD Pro trim coming only as a 4WD.
