GreatGreat wall is building a six wheeled version of its shanhai cannon pickup

The Chinese automaker, Greatwall, is testing a new six-wheeled pickup truck.  The Shanhai Cannon truck prototype was spotted running some road tests recently.

Back in 2013, carmakers suddenly realized that they can make six-wheeled pickup trucks, the start signal was given by Mercedes-Benz and its awesome G 63 6×6, sadly, the model was limited to 100 examples, and it didn’t have any follow-up. After that, other carmakers and aftermarket tuners were alerted to the idea. Now, some companies like Hennessey make most of their profits out of 6x6 vehicles. Apparently, China is now interested in having its own version of a six-wheeled truck. Great-wall, the local carmaker appears to be in the final phases of developing one.

The new Shanhai Cannon truck was spotted on the road. Its design features an extended rear bed and a raised ride, both to accommodate the third axle. The body looks raw, but that’s only due to the current absence of wheel arches. Don’t worry, the company doesn’t intend on selling it like this. A picture of the final designs has been circulating online, its primary source is Car News China. It shows a truck design very similar to the one here, but with a more refined finish, black wheel arches, and a black sports bar in the bed.

Presumably, the 6x6 Shanhai Cannon will use the same powertrain as the regular version, which means a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 plugged into a nine-speed automatic transmission. The expected output is 360 hp and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque, the only difference is that now they will be distributed on six wheels instead of just four.

It’s worth noting that the truck was planned for a 2021 release. But the health crisis situation pushed the reveal date until the second half of 2023. The 6x6 Shanhai Cannon will first be introduced to the Chinese market, before a possible global release at a later date.
