Hyundai Begins EV Production in Alabama with Santa Fe Hybrid

After years of teasing us with concepts and ideas, we are now set to see the first batch of Hyundai's electric vehicles that will be produced in the U.S. Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA), a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company, aims to expand its SUV production capability by including a hybrid version of the Santa Fe.

The company, which has a plant in Montgomery, will begin production of the Santa Fe Hybrid in October of 2022. after a $300 million investment and the creation of 200 new jobs.

Santa Fe Hybrid will be one of several models produced by Hyundai at the Montgomery, Alabama facility, along with other models including the Santa Fe and Tucson SUVs, the Santa Cruz Sport-Adventure Vehicle, and the Elantra sedan. The move comes as part of Hyundai's "Strategy 2025," which has the goal of releasing 16 eco-friendly models in the U.S. by 2025.

The company plans to expand its facilities, increase warehouse space, and enhance assembly procedures to facilitate EV manufacturing.

Hyundai's gas-electric Santa Fe will mark the beginning of a new era for the automaker, which was long best known for its affordable and efficient cars. The automaker aims to have an electric vehicle on all five continents. This is a great feat for Hyundai, which will likely contribute to more green cars in the future.
