New Strategy Aims for Mainstream Markets
Morris Garages aka MG was always known for producing some of the most popular sports cars, but it struggled to keep up with the rapidly changing market, especially here in the US, its last models were something like sports cars on a budget, a far cry from the company’s impressive legacy.
Currently the British brand is Chinese owned, like most of the traditional British carmakers. Now with the EV market opening up, the Chinese investors see a great opportunity to revive MG as an electric brand. Not a bad plan after all, especially when you see other brands’ intentions on doing the same thing.
MG have disclosed some of their future projects, the first product would be the halo model, it’s based on the Cyberster concept car, and we will be able to inspect it closely in the upcoming Beijing Motor Show.
MG UK commercial director Guy Pigounakis has summed up the reality of the sports car market, "The problem with sports cars is that everybody loves them but not many people buy them." That’s why the brand has struggled in the past. Now with the available funds, MG will have the luxury to make long term plans, producing new impressive sports cars will give the company great marketing benefits, allowing it to commercialize other car types, like the new MG 4 hatchback for example. The company officials expect a great success for this new model, insisting that all new cars will retain the brands values; like being exciting and having cutting edge technologies.
That’s not all on MG’s schedule, the planed also a new SUV, an essential thing if they intend on regaining their spot on the market.
