Jeep New Electric Wrangler SUV Concept as Fast as a Tesla

Jeep has unveiled a redesigned all-electric version of its Wrangler flagship, a shift from gas-guzzling vehicles to electric vehicles. One year after introducing the Stellantis brand's first concept vehicle, Jeep is unveiling its Wrangler Magneto 2.0 concept vehicle. The concept was built to gauge market interest in an all-electric sports utility vehicle.

The Magneto 2.0 is a faster-performing version of Jeep’s traditional Wrangler Rubicon SUV. It can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in two seconds, according to the company. That’s as fast as Tesla’s ultra-performance Plaid models. The new Jeep features up to 850 foot-pounds of torque as well as 625 horsepower and a new electronic “nitrous oxide” system that improves the 0-60 mph time by up to ten seconds.

Jeep's Wrangler Magneto 2.0 debuted online Friday, ahead of the brand's annual off-road event in Moab, Utah. The company uses this event to regularly test the capabilities of its vehicles and pays attention to customer feedback as well.

Jeep did not release the electric range of the all-electric prototype, because it is a concept. The company, on the other hand, is anticipated to produce an all-electric Wrangler at some point in the near future.

As part of a major new electrification effort, Jeep CEO Christian Meunier has said every new Jeep will offer some form of electrification in the next few years. The shift toward electric powertrains is expected to include all-electric vehicles and hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles (such as the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler 4×4 models) already on the market.

The Magneto 2.0 joined a group of several other modified Jeep vehicles, including an off-road Grand Cherokee Trailhawk PHEV concept and other modified Wrangler and Gladiator models.

Jeep is a key part of growth and electrification plans for Stellantis; it will continue to play an important role in the automotive sector. As its global growth continues, however, it will face the challenges of satisfying customers while preserving its image as a rugged, off-road-ready vehicle.
