L.A. has added another 1,300 EV chargers to its growing network — this time in a new parking structure.
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), one of the busiest airports in the world, continues to invest in charging infrastructure. The airport has added 1,300 EV chargers to its parking network in order to support its growing EV charging needs. Now, LAX is one of the first major airports in California to introduce EV charging.
The airport has partnered with PowerFlex, a national provider of renewable energy, to install 500 Level 2 chargers and eight DC fast-chargers in the economy parking structure that is a short shuttle ride from the gates.
Parking spaces at the new facility can be booked in advance via Parking.FlyLAX.com, with discounts offered based on location, demand for parking during the booking period and destination.
LAX's goal is to "enable any driver who owns an electric vehicle to experience LAX as their own personalized “supercharger” station," according to a press release from the airport's governing board. The chargers are available for use at a cost of $35 for a Tesla Model 3, $43 for a Ford Mustang Mach E with the extended-range battery or $96.50 for a GMC Hummer EV.
The new EV chargers are part of LAX's ongoing effort to provide clean-tech solutions for their customers and help them meet their sustainability goals through technological advances like EV charging stations. By using EVs, travelers can reduce their carbon footprint while also cutting down on costs at an airport. There's no longer any reason to be afraid that you'll run out of juice on your trip!
