Starting next year, Maserati will be launching its electric offensive. The goal: by 2025, the Italian luxury brand wants to offer a completely electric line-up. It starts with the new SUV Grecale and the sports car GranTurismo, each supplemented by the new name suffix "Folgore".

All new electric Maseratis will bear the title "Folgore", which is actually Italian for "Lightning". The SUV Grecale was unveiled and the Folgore version was also presented at the same time. Visually, the electric version differs from the combustion engine in only a few points.

The dominant radiator grille is less permeable to wind, and the exhaust pipes in the rear had to give way to diffusers. As far as the technology of the electric version of the approximately 16 ft long Grecale is concerned, Maserati remains vague.

It has a 400-volt platform, which allows a maximum charging power of around 200 kW. The e-machines - we assume an electric all-wheel drive - should provide 800 Newton meters of torque. This puts the Grecale Folgore at about the same level as a Porsche Taycan Turbo.

The battery should be able to store 105-kilowatt hours. This is likely to be the gross capacity. This means that WLTP ranges of at least 345 miles appear realistic. The Maserati Grecale Folgore will be launched in 2023. Exclusively for the EV, Maserati will offer the color "Rame Folgore", a copper-like, matt shade that can be seen in the images published by Maserati.

In addition to the SUV, Maserati announced the electric GranTurismo some time ago, which will now be launched over the next year. The first teaser photos already show the electric sports car with the trident.

The first figures are also extremely impressive: the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore, with its more than 880 kilowatts, is said to be able to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in less than three seconds. The maximum speed should be over 185 mph.

The e-sportsman is powered by three electrical engines, two of which will most likely be on the rear axle and one on the front axle. The inverters are said to come from Formula E and work with efficient silicon carbide semiconductor switches.

Thanks to the 800-volt operating voltage, Maserati speaks of a “top-class” charging performance, which means that charging capacities of over 250 kW can be expected. The battery in the form of a T-bone is intended to make ideal use of the space available for the combustion engine, which is why the sports car should be extremely flat.

With the classic "skateboard" batteries, which lie flat in the underbody, the installation space of the batteries is usually at the expense of the vehicle height. The Coupé GranTurismo Folgore will also be followed in 2023 by an electric convertible, the GranCabrio Folgore. The brand with the trident has not yet revealed any details.
