MercedesMercedes readies new electric four door coupe 2024

Mercedes reveals plans for a new generation of EVs, including a four-door coupe, coming in 2024.

Robert Lesnik, Mercedes design boss, gave reporters a sneak peek at the brand's future EV models, a series that the carmaker loves to call “entry luxury cars”. Lesnik revealed the existence of a new four-door EV coupe inspired by the Vision EQXX prototype and similar to the current CLA.

The new car will come in 2024, coinciding with the launch of Mercedes’ dual-purpose MMA architecture. The platform is compatible with both EVs and ICEs, so, it’s reasonable to assume that the new mystery model will run on this platform, while at the same time borrowing a lot of technical details from the EQXX concept.

Lesnik explained the relationship between the EQXX model and the new offering: “The EQXX was a peek into the future”, said Lesnik. “It really shows what is possible, but it is of course exaggerated. There are so many details that we cannot bring into production”. He then emphasized that some fundamental design elements can eventually find their way into the production line, giving the front end and the body-colored three-pointed star graphics as examples of that.

If you remember, the EQXX was all about efficiency, trying to get the most out of the battery and the motors, while using some high-end active aerodynamics technologies. The combination allowed the concept to go for a record-breaking 747 miles on a single charge. While it’s not realistic to expect such extreme performance from a production model, it’s still possible for them to be a minimized version of the EQXX experiment.

And that’s what observers are expecting from the new generation of MMA-based models. Mercedes will certainly take a shot at that, especially when designing the new generation of AMG models. And to be frank, the brand has no other choice if it wishes to survive in the new electrification era against other automotive giants.

Going for 747 miles on a single charge will certainly put a car under tremendous stress, requiring a high level of care and protection, a protection that can only be achieved by Coverking covers.

Coverking is a leading car cover company, making high-quality custom-made interior and exterior covers that are capable of fending-off severe weather conditions and other various minor accidents. Keeping your car spotless no matter how far you drive it.
