Toyota Answers Mini Truck Bring Back Unibody Pickup Truck

Mini trucks have been on the rise in the last few years. Hyundai and Ford are leading the race currently, But Toyota is getting ready to enter the competition with a new model.

For a little bit of background, Mini pickups had their prime during the 80s with some very popular models from Mazda and Nissan. However, cheap gas prices prepared the stage for the rapid rise of full-size pickups like the F-150 and Silverado. Now with the market shifting again, driven mainly by rising gas prices, and the overall rise in full-sized truck prices, the American consumers’ attention is turning toward smaller unibody Trucks and new EV trucks again.

Some carmakers have things already covered in this area, Hyundai has the fairly successful unibody 2021 Santa Cruz, and Ford has the 2022 Maverik in addition to its new full-size electrified adventure, the F-150 lightning.

Toyota trucks have an impressive track record in the US markets. Tundra and Tacoma remained at the top of Japanese truck sales in the US for the last 25 years. And now it sees new opportunities in this situation and it’s not planning to sit on the sidelines for long. Toyota’s Executive Vice President for Sales Bob Carter confessed that the company plans to commercialize a unibody truck in the US market in the near future. Probably using the TNGA platform that we currently see in some compact SUV models made by Toyota. No further details were given, but with the current circumstances, we will definitely hear some good news from Toyota soon.
