Nasa Astronauts Check Out Their New Electric Transports

NASA is getting special electric transport vehicles from Canoo, they will be used for the first time to transport the astronauts going on the Artemis space mission.

Canoo first appeared on the scene back in 2020 when it went public, since then it has presented us with some unusual but practical EV models, the most famous of them a Lifestyle Vehicle and a pickup truck.

However, the company has faced several hurdles that prevented it from putting any of its models into commercial production until now. So, this new contract with NASA may be the trigger that would set off the company and turn it into the major EV producer that it aspires to be.

The official announcement was made on Canoo’s Instagram account, showing pictures of the vehicle’s prototype. NASA wants the vehicle to be ready before 2024, to facilitate the Artemis space mission crew’s transport to the rocket.

The Canoo Lifestyle vehicle runs on an 80kWh battery providing a 250-mile range. Producing 350 horsepower, that’s more than enough to cross the nine miles trip from NASA’s facilities to the rocket. Canoo claims that the lifestyle vehicle charges up to 80 percent in under 30 minutes, but there’s still no confirmation on that.

NASA was very specific in its order; it wanted a zero-emission vehicle with at least a 50-mile range. The vehicle has to be spacious enough to fit four astronauts, three crew members, plus a driver comfortably, in addition to more storage space for six bags and four cooling units.

Canoo was up to the task, as the lifestyle vehicle has seven-passenger seats and 188 cubic feet of space.

It’s worth noting that this Lifestyle vehicle is not made exclusively for NASA, it’s just an adapted derivative from the original production unit. Canoo offers 4 trim levels on that vehicle, with the price starting at $34,750, the Delivery van trim comes with two seats only, while the Base and Premium ones can reach five or seven seats respectively.

Deliveries are scheduled to start later this year. While the NASA special delivery needs to be fulfilled before June 2023.

Canoo’s new vehicle further proves that cars and trucks are capable of performing various tasks, and are completely adaptable to all kinds of environments. But before going on a new adventure you need to equip your vehicle with the proper protection from Coverking, Ballistic Custom Seat Covers are the most suitable interior protection for your vehicle if it’s constantly exposed to harsh conditions during work or travel. The robust 1680 Denier ballistic fabric will ensure that the eats are perfectly safe and protected. While giving your seat an elegant style.
