No car part is excluded from development, new technologies try to improve every aspect of the car, and now it’s the tires turn to evolve. The iconic tire producer Michelin, the most famous company in the field is intending to take a brave step towards a radical change in its industry.

It has announced recently the development of a new tire technology and it laterally takes the air out from the traditional tires. Unique Puncture-Proof Tire System or “Uptis” for short is the chosen name for the new technology.

To test it on real roads Michelin has partnered up with GM and they agreed to put the airless tires on the new Chevy Bolt electric vehicle. And consumers can witness that in the next three to five years.

According to Michelin the new airless tires have numerous advantages, giving them a great edge over the regular tires, the absence of air eliminates the risk of flat tires and other air loss problems. And it also eliminates the need for pressure checks and regular maintenance, which makes them ideal to be used in self driving cars and passenger car fleets

On the environmental aspect, airless tires have a much longer life span which reduces the number of used tires in landfills, which makes them far more environmentally friendly than regular tires.
