GM increasing chevy bolt ev production amid surging demand
Americans are rediscovering the Chevrolet Bolt and GM decided to ramp up production as demand surges for the small EV.
The little Chevrolet Bolt EV has known a rocky ride since its birth, the car had a major technical problem that required widespread recalls in the recent past. But Chevrolet got over that quickly and is still holding on to the Bolt. Positive signs began appearing lately, as demand rises and GM reacts by increasing the production volume.

The main attractive aspect of the Bolt EV is its reasonable price, giving it the title of America's most affordable EV. GM is aware of that, and it’s doing its best to keep the car as affordable as it can be.
Another major boost to the Bolt EV’s popularity is the recent deal with the car rental company Hertz, including the purchase of 175,000 EVs, with the Bolt EV and EUV making a large portion of that number. So now all that GM has to do is keep riding the EV wave for as long as it can, mainly by increasing the production volume from 44,000 built this year to a projected 70,000 cars in 2023 in order to cover the rising demand that reached a record 24,828 vehicles in 2021.
If we take a closer look at the Bolt EV, we see that it rightfully holds its status as the most popular Chevrolet EV, with a total of 200 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque., and a 65-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery that can deliver up to 259 miles of range, all for as little as $25,600.

GM confessed that it needs to upgrade some of its factories to accommodate the new production situation for the Bolt EV and all other EV models. Plants like Factory Zero in Detroit for example will pause some of its production lines starting this November to make some necessary upgrades. This news may be disappointing for customers who are still on the GMC Hummer EV waiting list.
The Bolt EV isn’t GM's only focus right now; the company is trying to balance multiple plates, like increasing the Cadillac Lyriq production, as well as preparing the launch of other EV models like the Chevrolet Equinox EV and Chevrolet Blazer EV.
GM seems on the right track to attain its EV goal of reaching one-million vehicle production capacities by 2025. Although the company still has a long way ahead, because right now EV sales are still just a fraction of the carmaker’s overall production with a total of 30,000 EVs sold in the first nine months of 2022.
