PG&E Begins Installing EV Chargers at Schools

The first of up to 130 new electric vehicle (EV) charging ports will be installed at 22 schools in PG&E’s service area.

The goal of these new charging stations is to supplement the efforts PG&E has already made to support California’s “zero-emission requirement” without raising rates or impacting the sustainability goals of local schools.

This is an important step towards helping make all schools in the country more electric vehicle (EV) friendly. Starting with Eastside Prep school in East Palo Alto, California, this initiative also aims to help fill some of the charging gaps at these locations by offering students, staff and parents’ opportunities to charge their cars on-site.

Level 2 chargers will be installed at school facilities and educational institutions across California as part of a pilot program.

This pilot program is a step in the right direction for PG&E. The company is investing in infrastructure that could continue to make future EV ownership more convenient, and more affordable, for more customers in the coming years. The new chargers should also help make EVs more accessible and will help to ensure that these vehicles become popular on a wider scale.

“By increasing charging access at schools, we strive to make electric vehicles a viable option for more Californians. Expanding the use of clean transportation and reducing vehicle emissions is good for our state, our customers and the environment,” Aaron August, Vice President of Business Development and Customer Engagement at PG&E announced.
