The high-performance Polestar 2

Polestar Experimental EV Goodwood Limited Production

The high-performance Polestar 2 special edition for the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed will have a limited experimental production run, with only 270 units.

The rapidly rising Swedish EV maker has made a new exciting announcement, professing their plans to build 270 units of a new experimental special edition Polestar 2. It will be named the “BST edition 270,”, BST for beast, and 270 for the number of produced units, only 47 specimens will enter the United States while the rest will be scattered all over Europe and China. The initial price was set at $75,500, with an additional $1,400 as destination fees.

The special edition Polestar will be able to produce 476 horsepower, 68 more than the production model, thanks to a tuned-up dual-motor configuration.

The car also received some body modifications; the experimental Polestar 2 is 10 millimeters larger and 25mm lower than the regular Polestar 2.

It has also taken some features from the earlier model, the Polestar 1, like the 9 x 21-inch wheels and 275/30R21 Pirelli PZero Rosso performance tires.

The special edition Polestar 2 that was present at Goodwood had 6-piston Akebono front brakes, unlike the standard 4-piston Brembo brakes that will be installed on the production model.

Other tweaks include unique Öhlins 2-way adjustable dampers with auxiliary adjustment chambers mounted under the bonnet for improved traction and responsiveness, and a front strut bar for increased rigidity and 20 percent stiffer springs.

Polestar doesn’t offer a lot of color choices in this special edition; buyers will have to choose between Thunder or Snow which are essentially different shades of white. However, with an additional $1,000 you can get a special matte black racing stripe.  A worthy investment that will certainly add to the car’s experience.

Production is set to start around June 2022, those interested in a Polestar 2 BST edition 270 should register at the official website, the lucky few will then go through a personalized sales process before receiving their special Polestar.

Polestar is rapidly growing as one of the most interesting EV producers, a long way from what appeared to be just a small Volvo sub-brand.

Future plans include becoming a publicly-traded company, through a merger with a special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC., the deal is expected to be sealed before the end of June. Through this action, Polestar hopes to increase its capital, which will give it more room to maneuver and experiment with the rapidly evolving EV technology.

Polestar currently has two models in its lineup, the hybrid coupe Polestar 1 and the Polestar 2 fastback sedan. This is expected to change this year with the release of their first SUV the Polestar 3, and the compact SUV Polestar 4 a year later. But the model that everyone is waiting for is of course the Polestar O2, the sleek roadster concept that the company has unveiled a few months ago.
