PorschePorsche panamera electric planned rumor

The Porsche Panamera may be about to turn into a full-electric model before the end of the decade.

The news of the new Panamera update has become public knowledge by now, and we have spy shots to prove it. However, rumors say that it might be more than just a facelift. Porsche may have a more ambitious project in mind; the sporty liftback may soon turn into an electric car! Porsche’s enthusiasm about the new Scalable Systems Platform (SSP) is what’s fuelling these rumors, the company has already announced a new seven-seat SUV and a second-generation Taycan, both built upon the SSP, so it won’t be too strange if we see a new Panamera on the same electric platform.

Turning electric will put the car above the Taycan, thanks to its larger size, observers suspect that Porsche will adopt the stretched body type for the electric version, measuring 204.7 inches (5.2 meters) in length with 122 inches (3.1 meters) wheelbase. The generous measurements and the adoption of an electric platform will leave more space for storage and cabin.

Anyway, the Panamera EV won’t hit the road any time soon; the car is still in its early development stages. For now, we can only hope to see it before the end of the decade if everything goes smoothly. There’s also a big chance that Porsche is waiting for its new advanced 800V battery tech to be developed, a new technology that will give its cars a much larger range.

Meanwhile, we should wait and see how the new large SUV and Taycan EV would turn out, scheduled for 2025 and 2027 respectively.

It’s important to note that an electric Panamera doesn't mean that the ICE model will be abandoned anytime soon. We’re still going to see a facelifted ICE-powered Panamera in 2023, with no foreseeable end of production until 2030 when the EU ICE ban takes effect.

This schedule means that we will have an overlap of ICE and electric models for a few years. Similar to what we will see with other models like the Macan and the Cayenne, starting next year.

The only model exempt from this transformation project is the iconic 911. The iconic model will only have a hybrid version in the coming years, with the EV model postponed for later.
