After only two years of its launch, the Mercedes-Benz GLA is up for a facelift; spied testing a few days ago.
The German carmaker is determined to keep all of its offerings up to date, no matter how recent the launch was. That’s the case of the GLA, getting ready to show a new face, after two years of its first reveal. What’s also interesting is that even the more advanced AMG GLA 35 is included in this year’s update.
The photos show that the camouflage is hiding the front and rear fascias only, and that’s where the mid-cycle refresh is happening, so no big changes for the GLA this time. What we can expect are redesigned headlights and a revamped front bumper. While the Panamericana grille remains almost the same as the current model. On the backside, we see that camouflage is focused on and around the rear lights, suggesting some new designs in that area.
We shouldn’t be too excited about the interior either, Mercedes will most likely implement the same updates as in the A-Class with a new steering wheel and infotainment bezel in addition to the latest MBUX infotainment software.
Mercedes usually doesn’t touch the powertrain when doing such minor updates, and that’s what we expect for the Mercedes-Benz GLA. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder currently sitting under its hood produces 302 horsepower (222 kilowatts) and 295 pound-feet (400 Newton-meters) of torque giving the car a top speed of 155 miles per hour. The engine is coupled with the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with 4Matic all-wheel drive.
The future looks bright for the GLA, some rumors stipulate that the A-Class and B-Class are getting canceled, which will open the field for the GLA and GLB as the company’s only small offerings; Making an MMA architecture-based third-generation GLA even more possible.
The beauty of the small hatchback segment is their reliability over longer periods, being able to take you on your daily commutes for years on end without complaining is a blessing for every family.
