Renault Renault Trucks opens a disassembly line to recycle old rigs

 

 

Renault is making the most of its trucks. The French company built a special factory to recycle old rigs

 

Due to the ever-increasing awareness of climate change problems, car companies are more motivated to think about the entire life of their vehicles, not just the time they spend on the road.

Renault has taken important steps in this regard, building dedicated infrastructure to properly recycle all the useful parts of old trucks that have reached their virtual life span. Renault boasts that its trucks are good for over 930,000 miles, but even after that, the company can still make use of a lot of parts that can still serve a purpose.

This special factory is located in Renault’s new factory complex. In it, commercial hauling trucks that are still in good condition are “remanufactured”, Renault engineers equip them with the latest technology and send them back right to the road. This operation holds numerous benefits, ranging from ecological to financial ones.

In addition to that, the company has a huge Used Parts Factory where trucks that reached their end of service are scrapped; the resulting material is then sorted into three categories, good for recycling, refurbishing, or melting down.[i] 

Components like engines, gearboxes, cabins, fuel tanks, bumpers, and wind deflectors are often rebuilt, cleaned, and resold as original Renault spare parts with a considerable discount, of course, after labeling them as used parts.

Other elements that are damaged or unreliable for recycling are melted down, and the resulting raw material is used for making brand-new trucks.

It's maybe surprising that Renault has adopted such a sustainable manufacturing and recycling process, however, the surprise will fade away, when you know that Volvo trucks is in charge here. Renault trucks is not alone in this endeavor, the company works in collaboration with specialist Indra Automobile Recycling and ADEME, the French Environment and Energy Management Agency, supervising the work of the Used Parts Factory and perfecting the whole recycling process.
