Chevrolet Silverado EV RST First Edition gets a Unique Steering Wheel
It’s true that Chevy’s Silverado EV won’t be roadworthy until next year. But the stream of teaser videos and photos has given us a fairly good idea about what it would look like eventually.
We’ve already seen lots of details like the unique chassis design. One new detail that we’ve discovered recently is the flat-bottomed steering wheel.
The unusual shape was first used in race cars for functional purposes; it allows the drivers to get in and out of the car with no obstructing element, wining them valuable seconds. However, it has made the transition to regular cars as a cosmetic feature, simply because more and more drivers wanted to get the race feeling while holding their car’s steering wheel.
What we see on the Silverado EV is a classical interpretation of the Flat-bottom steering wheel with a silver leather wrap and red RST badging. Surrounded by Super Cruise-related components.
The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV will come in two trims; the RST and the WT, where each of them will have its own special orientation. The RST is the more refined version, housing more luxury features that appeal to the everyday driver. While the WT or Work Truck, is the robust version, designed for commercial use and on a job site, obviously this trim won’t be getting the flat-bottomed steering wheel.
The first edition Silverado EV RST will be a Four-wheel steering truck, powered by two electric motors, producing 664 horsepower and 780 pound-feet of torque, enabling it to reach 60 mph in a decent 4.5 seconds.
The truck world is changing rapidly, making a sharp turn towards an electric future, with great models like the Silverado EV, The Rivian R1T, and the already in production Ford F-150 Lightning. More impressive EV trucks are coming down the road from the likes of Tesla, GMC. A reality that proves that carmakers have already made their choice about the future of ICEs.
Chevy’s new steering wheel emphasizes the point that every car has its own shape and style features. Coverking has realized that since its start back in 1986. That’s why we’ve decided to make custom-made car covers only, doesn’t matter if it was seats, dashboard, or exterior body.
