Tesla’sTesla 10000th modely produced texas

Tesla’s Giga Texas plant is celebrating a new milestone; the factory has produced 10,000 Tesla Model Y electric cars since it entered mass production back in April 2022.

It may look like a small milestone in a world where cars are produced by the millions, but it’s still an important achievement that marks a rapid increase in production, and a step toward reaching a larger production volume in the near future.

Reaching the 10,000 mark came after Tesla announced this last august that it’s raising the production volume at the Texas factory to 1,000 “Model Y” units per week, but that’s still not the end goal here, the company estimates that the factory will be able to produce a quarter million “model Y” units annually, so 1000 vehicles a week are far from enough, Texas needs to boost its weekly production to around 5000 cars in order to meet the desired annual production volume.

The main hurdle preventing Tesla and its Texas factory from reaching such numbers is the availability of the all-new 4680-type cylindrical battery cells for structural battery packs. A problem made worse by the supply chain issues. Tesla took some temporary measures to stabilize the production process. The company for example equipped the model Y with the 2170-type cells (and non-structural battery packs) instead of the 4680-type cylindrical battery.

Tesla is currently on a global quest to increase its production volume worldwide. And the numbers don’t lie in that regard; the Fremont Factory reached 2 million units, the Giga Shanghai plant crossed 1 million units in August and the Giga Berlin-Brandenburg in Germany is producing more than 1,000 Model Y per week. Overall, the company expects to be making 1.9 million BEVs per year. Tesla is also planning the launch of the long-awaited Cybertruck pickup truck and the Tesla Semi as well, all before 2024. How’s that for an electrified future?
